Vargatron Hits A Home Run Into The Clouds With their New Baseball App

A developer called Vargatron has come up with an ingenious cloud based application for the iPad. Named Pennant, this program is set to become the ultimate ‘bible’ for any baseball fan worth his salt. Pennant is enormous – allowing you to look up, compare and review the records, statistics, and performances of all professional baseball teams since 1950.
The Pennant app accesses its data from various baseball databases, such as Retrosheet and Baseball Databank. In Baseball Databank, the statistical information of games is organized in a way that makes it easy for researchers and product developers to study or go over the numbers.
Pennant uses algorithms to crunch game information and transform this data into different forms.
Pennant was designed with baseball fanatics in mind and they made sure to throw in loads interesting features to keep users engaged. With the Pennant, it’s possible to view the history and performance of any team in the league from 1950 onwards.
Pennant also allows you to compare the averages of any team against those of the whole league, for example pitching and hitting averages. Using this program, you can also access the results of any professional baseball game played since 1950, complete with post game analysis and scores.
In addition you can also have the chance to view the statistics of a team during any period in a particular game.
For now the app is being offered for just $5, making the app a must-have for anyone who has more than a passing interest in baseball fans, and it looks set to be a real winner.
Pennant is a fine example of what cloud computing technology can do. Cloud is not strictly limited to the management of business data, but can also be used to facilitate the sharing of information about things that people have a personal interest in. It’s my hope that forward-thinking cloud companies will leverage this as devices such as Pennant can easily change people’s perceptions of the cloud, which right now is not as positive as we would like.
Many people abhor things that are too technical in nature or that they have a hard time relating to. That’s why informing the public on what cloud computing is all about – especially through mediums like the Pennant which will appeal to a wide audience – is the best way of generating interest in the potential that cloud computing has to offer.
Apple is showing the industry the way forward by choosing baseball, America’s national pastime, as a platform to engage their customers. I’m sure that many users of the Pennant will walk away not only having a deeper appreciation for baseball but also for cloud technology as well.
